The following sections are included in the CogAT exam:

As per the purpose of CogAT, it has a variety of questions to make the child’s mind work in different aspects. The exam has three sections namely Verbal, Quantitative and Non-Verbal.

Verbal Section:

This section deals with problem-based activities like picture analogies, sentence completion and picture classification. This section tests the candidate’s ability to complete sentences, pointing out analogies in different pictures and basic sentence completion activities.

Qualitative:

This section of the CogAT test deals with the familiarity of the child with numbers. This involves identifying patterns in numbers such as finding the missing number and predicting patterns in a number series and other similar tests like number series thus, this section analyses the mathematical skills of the individual.

Non-Verbal:

This section deals with the candidate’s ability to distinguish between shapes. Activities like folding paper to form simple patterns are conducted to analyse the knowledge of the basics of shapes and figures.

However, it is important to note that CogAT is a general test and not a memory-based test which can be passed by memorising formulae and books.
