US Stock Markets are closed on weekends. Thus, they do not allow buying and selling transactions on Saturdays and Sundays.

The United States has different stock exchanges across different states. Major stock exchanges in the US are New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ Stock Market (NASDAQ) and also have smaller stock exchanges like the Chicago Stock Exchange and the Boston Stock Exchange.

The Timings of the New York Stock Exchange are as follows:

  • At the New York Stock Exchange, stock trading starts at 9:30 AM EST and continues till 4 PM EST normal market operation timings.

  • NYSE also allows pre-market and after-hours market trading. The premarket trading timings are 4.00 AM to 9.30 AM and the timing for after-hours trading is 4.00 PM to 8 PM.

The Timings of the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (NASDAQ) are as follows:

  • In NASDAQ, the timing of pre-market and after-hours raiding remain the same i.e. it starts at 9:30 AM EST and continues till 4 PM EST.

  • NASDAQ also allows pre-market and after-hours market trading. The premarket trading timings are 4.00 AM to 9.30 AM and the timing for after-hours trading is 4.00 PM to 8 PM.

Thus, US stock markets remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Other minor stock exchanges across the US follow the same timing as NYSE and NASDAQ.
