It is a test of the basic abilities of the child to distinguish between numbers, analyse shapes, fold paper to form different patterns, identify pictures and draw analogies between them.

The exam has three sections namely verbal ability, non-verbal ability and quantitative analysis. All these three sections have to be attempted in particular time directions well and the overall exam is conducted for 2 to 3 hours.
Thus, CogAT is a general test and does not require a candidate to memorize books and only focuses on testing the general mental ability of the individual.
